STRAFFAN, Ireland — A furious Tiger Woods defended his wife’s honor Wednesday, coming out swinging against an Irish magazine that published porn pix that it falsely said were of his wife.
“I am very disappointed in how the article was written. Yes, my wife has been a model and she did do some bikini photos, but to link her to porn Web sites is unacceptable. I do not accept it,” the world’s No. 1 golfer said.
“My wife is an extension of me. We’re in it together. We’re a team, and I care about her with all my heart,” he said, choosing his words carefully and speaking with controlled fury.
Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, said the golfing great is considering the possibility of legal action.
“It’s ridiculous,” Steinberg said. “Everyone knew it wasn’t her. It’s plain as day. You can see it’s not factual.”
Woods and Steinberg were blasting The Dubliner magazine, which published fake nude photos of Elin Nordegren, Woods’ wife of two years, claiming she could be found “in a variety of sweaty poses on porn sites.”

A day after the article sparked a firestorm of protest, the mag issued an apology, saying the story was a satire of “inaccurate tabloid publishing,” and it didn’t expect anyone to take it seriously.
“The publishers believed readers would not be left with the impression that there was any truth in the assertions. If any contrary impression was given, it certainly was not intended,” the mag said. Woods, 30, was one of those who had a “contrary impression.”
At a news conference in Straffan -- where he will take part in the Ryder Cup golf tournament that begins Thursday -- the intensely private Woods ripped into the magazine.
“It’s hard to be very diplomatic about this when you have so much emotion involved, when my wife is involved in this,” he said. “I don’t think it was the right thing to do.”
Woods, who married Nordegren, 26, at a luxury resort in Barbados in October 2004, added, “Sometimes [the media] don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story, and I think this was a clear incidence of that.”
Asked if the story would affect his concentration at the golf tourney, he replied, “You just go out there and play. I have a teammate with me, and the Irish people here have been absolutely fantastic.”
Under the headline, “Tiger’s Fury at Naked Pictures,” The Irish Daily Star gave the story frontpage treatment Wednesday.
The tabloid printed photos of Nordegren in a bikini, along with a nude picture of a busty woman said to be her. It clearly stated the photo was “bogus.”
Woods wasn’t scheduled to be in the Ryder Cup interview room until this afternoon, but he felt he had to act swiftly.
He prefaced his angry remarks by saying, “This does not detract from the beauty of this event. The people here been absolutely fantastic.”
The Dubliner article also poked fun at the wives of American players David Toms, Chad Campbell and Jim Furyk. They weren’t amused.
“Uncalled for,” Campbell said. “I don’t think it has any significance to what we’re trying to do over here,” Toms said.
If anything, Toms said, he marvels at the extracurricular issues that Woods has to face constantly.
“He’s the one that’s in the spotlight all the time,” Toms said. “His escape is inside the ropes ... Whatever happened in the morning, he turned it off by the time he was on the golf course.”
